A decade (PLUS) in pictures:

The portrait to the left is the work of Lichuanlibuchuan, and is the first of a series of portraits of contemporary poets from the Beijing-based, Encyclopedia Poetry
School: Contemporary International Poets' Series. My interpretation of Lichuanlibuchuan’s art:
The majesty of these endlessly expansive depictions of beings, creatures, persons, faces, and things is that each subject is transported into a cosmos--a constellation--of associations, suggesting that the pictured entity is in fact mythological, a conjuration of the heavens and divinities, that the beheld is both atoms and galaxies, stardust incarnate, and a palimpsest of mysterious universes never to be comprehensively defined, explored, or known. The marvel--the magic--of these detonations of light--all these millionfold, minute suns and astonishing illuminations-- is that pointillist method manifests astral projection, really; while every iota of the drawn, the painted, the inked, is the gravid in motion, the engraved dancing, black-and-white gravitating toward a brilliant, spectacular, indivisible wholeness; while the flowing lines compose simultaneously the solid subject and then the spectral emanation hidden in the milky way--just as fate and purpose hover--invisible--amid astrological charts, merely to be guessed at until the foretold unfolds. Another way to picture this art-- this achievement--is that the microscope eyeing the beheld becomes instantaneously a telescope glimpsing the outer, celestial realm that is glimpsed only in dream, theology, philosophy, and poetry. Herein shadow illuminates light, luminaries are magnified, and the subject is born again--as so many innumerable and imponderable, stellar dots and dashes--DNA reproduced as Morse Code, the meaning of the entity both composed and dissipated in flashes of living light amid the opacity of time. If Einstein would do portraiture, it would look like these.
